I’ve been teaching the subject for almost 10 years now;
I graduated from Moscow State Pedagogical University, and I have a Master’s degree in education;
Completed training and got CELTA certificate;
I did the internship for the National Park Service and worked in one of the national Parks in the USA, where I had a chance to embrace ecological values;
I fluently speak three languages (Russian, English, and Spanish);
I love traveling and have visited over 35 countries and been to 4 continents. I try to share my travel experience in class to bring the textbook case studies to life.

What is your teaching philosophy?
The task of a geography teacher is to show how beautiful, amazing and diverse our planet is.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
To get to know the student, their favorite topics, difficulties, and improvement areas.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
- Create an Open Environment
- Encourage Brainstorming
- Classroom discussions to encourage the students to make up their own minds
- Assign Research Projects.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
I try to consider students’ interests, connect them to the topics, discuss some global challenges and problems which are widely known and concern every person on the planet. (e.g., Global Warming and sea-level rise – Challenge for people living in coastal areas and low lying islands).

How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?
- Students may read aloud.
- Sometimes provide adapted texts to correspond to the level of the student.
- Retell what they read
- Reread if the students misunderstood
- Using ‘check your understanding’ questions
What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?
- Learning about student’s personal interests
- Integration of technologies and applications in the classroom
- Graphic organizers (padlet, miro, flinga, PP Presentations)
What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?
I have a set of questions for each topic which I discuss with the students and check their understanding.
How do you evaluate a student’s needs?
I find out the difficulties and areas of improvement.
What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?
Textbooks, presentations, articles, exam questions.
