Bio

I am a passionate IBDP and IB MYP faculty with 8+ plus teaching experience. I have taught Economics (HL and SL) and Business management in the IB Diploma Programme, and I am an Examiner. Being an examiner has given me an insight into the assessment practices and enhanced my teaching. I regularly participate in IB professional development workshops to keep myself updated with the curriculum and assessment practices.

Teaching Experience

I have been teaching Economics in the IB Diploma Programme since 2011, and I am an Examiner for Economics HL Paper 1 and IA. I have an in-depth knowledge of the curriculum and the assessment criteria. Being an experienced teacher and examiner helps me provide the right guidance to my students in terms of conceptual understanding of theories, drawing the correct diagrams, using required subject-specific terminology, and most importantly, understanding the requirements of the questions before answering them.
I have been working with students to help them achieve the highest grade in their Economics Internal assessment.
Being an Extended essay supervisor for the last 8 years has given me a thorough understanding of the process, enabling me to guide students effectively.

What is your teaching philosophy?

I emphasize the student’s role in the teaching process by incorporating exploration and problem-solving in an active learning approach. My lesson plans link theory with the application with a strong focus on real-life examples and connections that make students more participative, engaging, and more pertinent.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

Before my first session with the student, I would communicate with him regarding the topic/area of difficulty that he wants to cover. This will help me be prepared for the class.
I would try to understand the students’ requirements from the session and help them by giving appropriate feedback, clarity of concepts, assessment criteria, etc.
I would try to meet the students’ requirements to the best of my abilities.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

Using inquiry-based and conceptual learning strategies.
Sharing relevant documents, lesson plans, and videos to help students become independent learners.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

As an educator, I believe in a student-centered teaching approach by going the extra mile by providing them extra classes to help them achieve their goals. I am always easily accessible to my students and have an amicable relationship with them, helping them be the best version of themselves through detailed feedback. I create a positive and healthy classroom environment that contributes to an excellent learning experience.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

Economics is all about connecting theories to real-life examples to help students understand them better.
I use a lot of examples that students can connect to or are familiar with while teaching.
I would patiently explain the student the concept until he uses as many practical examples as possible.

How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?

I would give students more research assignments. Bring in more variety in the class in the forms of videos and podcasts.
I will share some learning strategies from my experience.

What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?

I would make myself familiar with the student’s requirements before the class. This helps me in planning my lesson and meeting the student’s requirements. It also ensures proper utilization of time.
I would prepare the necessary material for the class in advance for a smooth and productive session.

How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling with?

Like I mentioned earlier, I would make the subject more relevant and interesting to them by connecting it/ linking it to things happening in their surroundings and the world. Also, I would try to give them a research topic related to the subject, which can be linked to the studies and which will help to invoke their interests.

What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?

Student participation in the class is essential. Asking students relevant questions will help me know whether the student has understood or not.

How do you build a student’s confidence in a subject?

By giving him positive feedback and reinforcement. Appreciating the student’s efforts and giving them constructive feedback in areas of improvement.
