Learning has always been a lifelong process for me, and that is what I try to instill into my students' school experience.
A short get-to-know-each-other session and questions about the strengths and weaknesses of the student. Update on content/ curriculum covered at school and the setting of objectives. Brainstorming activity on a literary text (Paper 2 ) and a text type (Paper 1) to get a feel of the student's abilities. Practical suggestions and tailor-made plans are offered to improve skills.
Throughout my teaching experience, I aim to engage my students in learning by drawing them into acquiring knowledge through self-cognition. Only by unraveling their actual needs and aspirations can students succeed academically. Teaching with clarity, passion, empathy, and sincere enthusiasm effectively involves students, ultimately connecting them to their ‘passion’ and lifelong learning.
For me, engaging lessons, a ton of empathy, and focusing on their social and emotional well-being is the most vital part of the learning process.
Model an example by scaffolding it to the student's level.
Improving reading strategies, such as skimming, scanning, predicting, making inferences, and underlining keywords to derive meaning, are the most effective ways to help students comprehend the text as a whole and then in explicit terms.
Ice-breaker activities (question and answer, what would you do if...) to gradually develop communication
Engage them with an angle of the subject that might interest them and motivate them to brainstorm concepts on a particular topic.
Question-Answer Session, Drilling, Model example, and then a practice task to check for comprehension.
Encouragement and empathy toward the student are crucial elements to building a student's confidence.
