My teaching philosophy revolves around making any concept simpler. How?? Through the use of analogies, being able to link a real life example to any concept at hand. I ensure you, when students understand they will never have to memorize.
On the first session I will get to know my student, get to know how he/she understands concepts. Their strengths and weaknesses in the subject, what they need help in, what topics they like and what topics they don't. I will also explain my teaching method and apply it to any topic of their choice.
I will help the student become an independent learner by teaching them how to think, how to directly filter what is important, how to acquire knowledge, not just memorize information. "If you give a man a fish, you feed him for a day. If you teach a man to fish, you feed him for a lifetime."
Students will stay motivated when they see results, when they see that their hard work paid off. I will make sure that hard work = results. They will also stay motivated when they are able to understand and apply the knowledge they acquired and built on it. Like an engineer building his tower block by block, when he finally sees the tower he will be extremely happy and content.
I would try different approaches not just one. Every one of us is unique and has his own learning style.
Analogies is key to understanding anything. The ability to link the concept to a real life example.
Students will stay excited because it will be fun to learn, they won't have to do it out of obligation.
My method of teaching is to teach from 0. 1st: with an introduction to the concept . 2nd: explain the basic concept and try to link it with fun real life examples, I guarantee that the student will never forget it again in his life. 3rd: After making sure the student grasped the basic concept, we move on to the more advanced topic and apply exercises.
A student's confidence is built by seeing his results. Seeing how he answered correctly to questions.
Student's level of understanding of the topic will be evaluated by questions.
Analogies will be tailored to the students' mind.
I use visual materials like videos, pictures. I also like to teach through the student's textbook.
