I have a great passion for Chemistry to help students build their problem-solving skills and develop confidence in understanding the Scientific concepts and appreciating their connections to their daily life.
Break the ice with an introduction that shows what Chemistry is and how it should be studied to be appreciated and get the most out of the study.
Develop Research Skills necessary to be able to find answers to questions.
Every Concept learned in Chemistry has a Social & Historical Context and Real Life Applications that should be highlighted to keep the student interested and motivated in learning Chemistry.
Break the task into smaller tasks and focus on the pre-requisites needed to understand and acquire the skills, then gradually assemble the "puzzle parts" to clearly show the whole Scientific idea or concept. In this way, no skill or concept will be seen as complex.
While reading, students are highly recommended to highlight important and relevant keywords to the topic, numerical data, circle, underline, summarize, change the text to another format such as concept map, table, diagram, graph, .... These little tricks will make it easier to understand the text and be able to answer any question related to it.
Let them think aloud, express their ideas to identify misconceptions, and allow the teacher to build on the student's background knowledge to develop their understanding and knowledge of the new concepts.
Give them easy tasks that they can solve; through positive feedback and appraisal, the student will gain confidence that they are capable of being a good achiever and gradually take the student's hand to the top of the ladder.
A few instructions and many applications, presenting the completed work, and formative assessments ensure that the ideas are well grasped.
A student should fall in love with the subject, should learn it while feeling happy and stress-free to be able to feel confident in working with it
Diagnostic tests before a lesson and formative checks during the implementation of the lessons really help a lot.
Teaching methods are many and the teacher should be able to discover the learning style of the student to serve him/her better. The Four Learning Styles are: Visual Learning, Recognizing visual learners (The visual learners in your classroom like to see and observe the things they are learning about), Auditory Learning, Reading/Writing Learning, and Kinesthetic Learning.
Simulations, Virtual Labs, Videos, Animations, and Atomic Models are very helpful to help the students understand Chemistry.
Very helpful and great engagement!!
The tutor provided explanation and information vital to understanding and eventually creating the internal assessment (which these sessions focused on) in such a short time and with a tight schedule. I really appreciated the support and effort. The resources and guidance received were truly for the IB level, I look forward to working with this tutor again.
Majid is amazing! Best chemistry session ever had. Learned so much from him!
I just want to thank you for all your help, I literally couldn't have done it without you; thank you very much!
