I prefer concept and inquiry-based learning, which helps learners become independent thinkers. I typically start lectures by discussing issues from the latest news articles or examples around us. I like to use all the learning resources available to us as teachers (presentations, videos) and create a conducive environment in the class to enable peer-to-peer learning. I usually prefer displays that are based on the curriculum requirement. To make it more interactive and creative, I typically include videos, TED talks, News, or business games depending on the needs of the topics being discussed. For example:- This week, I taught class -9 about advertising and marketing. I equipped them with all the theories, and then we created a project to practice them. They had to prepare a commercial for any actual or imaginary product and sell it to their peers. This helped them understand the marketing process and got them out of their seats.
I believe every student is unique with their strengths and challenges, and my job is to find them and leverage them. I have a student in my class who understands core concepts well. However, she faces difficulty in communicating clearly because of the language barrier. To boost her confidence, I provide differential learning material through videos and digital books and engage her through classroom activities. In parallel, I gradually push her into her uncomfortable zone so she can grow by asking her to present in the group.
