"I never teach my pupils; I only provide the conditions in which they can learn" Albert Einstein.
My teaching philosophy as a language teacher is student-centered. I believe that the learning process happens in every student's brain differently. Still, our job is to evaluate how the students learn better to provide them with the practical activities that make them meet their potentialities and embrace that potential to face the real world in the future. I don't teach just a language; I show the students a whole new world using a target language. It is for that reason that I don't believe in the standardization of the education system. We should be able to assess students' progress in different ways and not just exams.
It is very important to have some information about my learner and his levels, needs, and interests before the learning takes place. Therefore, I should prepare an entry test to detect his level of knowledge, but also conduct a short survey to collect information about his interests, learning styles, and expectations. Afterward, I can use this information while designing the learning activities
As a society, we encourage independence, so it is important to prepare students for the demands of the world.
Personally, I use the following strategies with my students:
I use questions to help steer students toward independent learning.
I develop communication that focuses on learning.
I provide feedback on classwork and homework.
I give my students options and allow them to set their own goals.
I involve pupils in lesson planning.I
I encourage students to be reflective.
By providing students with freedom of choice, praising their intelligence, and never giving upon them.
Usually, with my struggling students I follow these methods:
I teach through direct Instruction.
I teach just one new concept at a time.
I believe in repetition by using different methods (Multisensory Instruction).
I keep lessons short but frequent.
I believe in the power of using encouraging words.
I use the reading comprehension strategies, which include activating prior knowledge, predicting, clarifying, questioning, determining importance, inferring, or summarizing.
The very first thing is to figure out what motivates him, why is he learning, what is his personal benchmark of success? Does he believe success is based on getting a better grade than his peers or is he motivated by wanting to get a better score than he did last time? Dependent on his motivation, I modify the strategy.
One key way to involve students in their learning is to make sure the material speaks to them. That is why I choose culturally relevant materials, and I use specific everyday examples.
By asking students to reflect.
by using quizzes.
By asking students to summarize.
By making learning intentions clear, by giving useful feedback, by showing that effort is normal, and by celebrating their success.
I believe that informal observations alert teachers to issues and information that one can’t provide on a written test. So, observing students throughout the school day can give important insight into their learning needs and progress.
I try to find ways to meet the needs of all students, including those with learning and thinking differences. Here are some of my teaching methods. Differentiated instruction, Scaffolding, and Graphic organization
Nowadays for online teaching, I use my laptop, any useful platform, a PowerPoint presentation, lots of interactive lessons, some grammar exercises, some audios, some reading comprehension.
