Bio

I am 53 years old, and I live in Greece. I studied Physics, Meteorology, Technology, Enhanced Learning, and Educational Management. My teaching and tutoring career started in 1993 and has to do with teaching Physics of all levels, face-to-face and online. In 2011 I started being involved in online tutoring, and until now, I have completed more than 3,500 sessions (AP, IB, SAT, A-level Physics) with students globally. Besides teaching, I have a long experience in mentoring, content creation, and many more having to do with the private sector of education. Currently, I work as a teacher at a famous French-Greek private high school.
It will be my pleasure and honor if you decide to try my teaching approach.

What is your teaching philosophy?

Three words: Interaction-Innovation-Feedback

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

Try to highlight the common misconceptions in Physics-related to his/her curriculum.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

Give the student ”space” to try proceeding at his/her own pace by adopting my methodology personally and effectively.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

By setting new goals at a higher level of understanding complex concepts and helping him/her step by step to achieve them.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

Trying different approaches, incorporating new technologies (e.g., video, simulations, etc.), and repeating the procedure several times until it works. If not, try another…

How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?

I would suggest getting help from an expert (e.g., teaching grammar and literature).

What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?

  1. Make him/herself familiar with the way I work.
  2. Make both of us feel comfortable.
  3. Try to highlight the points of interest we have to focus on 4

How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling with?

By showing him everyday examples of how Physics is involved in our lives.

What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?

  1. Assigning homework of various types
  2. Often reviews of small ”bunches” of material.
  3. Live quizzes during the lessons
  4. Conversations about the material in terms of applications in our life (if possible)

How do you build a student’s confidence in a subject?

By checking his/her degree of understanding and by showing the points that are the most common sources of misconceptions.

How do you evaluate a student’s needs?

  1. Checking his/her interests
  2. Putting small projects to choose one and work on it to investigate his/her needs and skills/hobbies
  3. Regular testing of the level of understanding
  4. Getting student’s feedback regarding his/her feelings about his/her progress

How do you adapt your tutoring to the student’s needs?

  1. Taking into account the student’s age and curriculum
  2. Using 2-3 different teaching approaches
  3. Testing the degree of understanding step by step

What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?

  1. Powerpoint presentations
  2. Simulations
  3. Videos
  4. Online quizzes
  5. Virtual labs
  6. Assignments
