I believe in making learning accessible to my students' needs. I utilize my students' strengths to make our lessons a more enjoyable and useful experience for them.
Identify their goals. Assess their strengths and weakness. Make a plan to meet the goals. A lesson will contain clear learning objectives and include a combination of writing, provided notes, images, and examples. Students will learn what a good IB-style answer is. In the end, they will be provided with a bank of topic-based IB-style questions to practice their learning.
Using scaffolding and modeling techniques, my students start with support in answering questions and condensing important points. However, as they become more comfortable with the content and question styles, they are encouraged to attempt questions and write notes more independently.
I focus on their positives, including what they got right and what parts they did really well. I reaffirm to them that learning is a process, and improvements come in steps. Hence, their mistakes are an opportunity to determine how their reasoning works and how I can help them understand the concepts better.
We find out the source(s) of confusion and re-approach the learning objective differently. I believe in letting the student-led discovery style learning. This means we will do activities or examples to understand, reinforce and solidify their learning.
I will use differentiated learning techniques that include more visual-auditory (diagrams/pictures/discussions) lessons. Rather than being overwhelmed with wordy explanations, students will be supported with key and structured points to meet the learning objectives and condensed, structured notes.
She listened to my daughters academic concerns and formulated a plan for instruction with clear goals.
Sarah is patient, explains concepts well and is approachable. We will continue tutoring with her.
Sarrah is a great tutor! She knows her stuff extremely well and is great at working with me to make sure I understand everything. I really enjoy her teaching style, as she goes over the information and then gives time to practice and make sure it is fully understood.
