When Is IB Results Day 2026?

IB Results Day for the May 2026 examination session is Monday, July 6, 2026. Results become available to students from 12:00 PM GMT (noon), with access times staggered by region.

Your IB Diploma Programme Coordinator receives the results one day earlier, on July 5, giving them time to review scores and prepare support for any students who may need it.

This means your coordinator already knows your results before you do. If your school typically schedules a results day meeting or phone call, expect to hear from them on July 5 or early morning July 6.

How to Access Your IB Results

You will access your results through the IB Candidate Results website. Here is what you need:

  1. Personal code — provided by your DP Coordinator
  2. PIN — also provided by your coordinator
  3. Both are case-sensitive, so enter them carefully

If you have not received your login credentials by late June, contact your coordinator directly. Do not wait until results day to sort this out.

Understanding Your IB Scores

Each subject is graded on a scale of 1 to 7, giving a maximum subject total of 42 points across six subjects. An additional 3 bonus points can be awarded for your Theory of Knowledge (TOK) essay and Extended Essay (EE), bringing the maximum possible score to 45.

To be awarded the IB Diploma, you need:

  • A minimum of 24 points overall
  • No grade of 1 in any subject
  • No more than three grades of 3 or below
  • At least 12 points from Higher Level subjects
  • Satisfactory completion of CAS (Creativity, Activity, Service)
  • A minimum of D in both TOK and EE (an E in either is a failing condition)

If you fall short of the diploma but pass individual subjects, you will receive IB Course Results (certificates) for those subjects instead.

What to Do Before Results Day

The seven-week wait between your last exam and results day can feel endless. Here is how to use that time productively:

Send Your Transcripts Early

Before results are released, you can request that the IB send your results to up to six universities free of charge. Additional transcript requests cost extra. Make sure you submit these requests through your coordinator before the deadline — do not leave this until July.

Know Your Conditional Offers

If you hold conditional university offers, write down the exact grade requirements now. On results day, you will want to check your scores against these conditions immediately, without scrambling to find offer letters.

Prepare for All Outcomes

Hope for the best, but have a plan for every scenario:

  • You meet your conditions — celebrate and confirm your university place
  • You narrowly miss — contact the university admissions office immediately. Many universities accept students who are 1-2 points below their offer, especially if you are close
  • You are significantly below — look into clearing options, gap year programmes, or retaking specific subjects
  • You exceed expectations — consider whether adjustment (trading up to a higher-ranked university) is available in your country

What If Your Results Are Not What You Expected?

If you believe a grade does not reflect your performance, the IB offers a formal review process called Enquiry Upon Results (EUR), commonly known as a "remark."

How EUR Works

There are three categories:

  • Category 1 (Re-mark): Your exam papers are re-marked by a senior examiner. This costs approximately $100–120 USD per subject. If the grade changes (up or down), the fee is fully refunded.
  • Category 2 (Return of scripts): You receive copies of your marked exam papers to review. Costs approximately $15–25 USD per component.
  • Category 3 (Re-moderation): Your internally assessed work (IA) is re-moderated. Costs approximately $50–75 USD per subject.

Important EUR Details

  • The EUR window opens on results day and closes around mid-September 2026, giving you roughly 10 weeks to decide
  • You must request a remark through your DP Coordinator — students cannot submit directly
  • Re-marks can result in a grade going up or down — this is the risk that stops many students
  • Category 1 results typically come back within 18 calendar days
  • Approximately 10–15% of Category 1 re-marks result in a grade increase

We have a complete guide to the IB remark procedure that covers when a remark is worth requesting and when it is not.

Planning Ahead: What Comes After Results Day

For Students Entering Year 2

If you just finished Year 1 exams (mocks or end-of-year assessments), your results are a preview of where you stand heading into the most demanding year of the IB. Now is the time to identify weak subjects and get support before Year 2 begins.

The students who perform best in May 2027 are the ones who use the summer to close gaps — not the ones who start looking for help in February.

For Students Who Need to Retake

If you did not achieve the diploma or need higher grades for your university offer, retaking specific subjects in the November 2026 session is an option. Working with a tutor who specialises in IB exam preparation can make a significant difference in a short timeframe.

Start Early, Not Late

Whether you are preparing for Year 2 or recovering from a disappointing result, the common mistake is waiting too long. A tutor who knows the IB curriculum can help you build a structured plan over the summer, so you are not scrambling when school starts.

If you are looking for an experienced IB tutor, we can help you find the right match.

Key Dates to Remember

Final Thoughts

Results day is one day. What you do in the weeks before and after it is what actually shapes your next step. Send your transcripts early, know your conditional offers, have a plan for every outcome, and do not hesitate to request a remark if the numbers do not add up.

And if you are heading into Year 2 or need support after results — the summer is your window. Find a tutor who gets the IB and start strong.
