About Bilawal
I am Bilawal, an experienced and certified IB MYP/DP mathematics instructor, and an IB DP mathematics examiner: I currently teach at an IB continuum School in Japan. My teaching method involves a student-centered approach to learning where students actively participate in class discussions and present their findings. As an IB MYP/DP mathematics instructor, my planned curriculum engages students with TOK connections linked in each module, which is fundamentally about critical thinking and inquiry into the process of knowing rather than learning a specific body of knowledge. For the IB MYP math classes, I have learned to incorporate ATL’s skills in my lessons to make my students learn the art of being lifelong learners. I also conduct technology sessions for the students to guide them on MYP math e-assessments. I prefer to start the mathematical exploration (internal assessment) in the last quarter of the first year and end it in the first quarter of the second year to provide students with enough time to showcase their skills. It also helps them to focus only on their exams scheduled at the end of the second year. Extended Essay is the core component of the IB DP program, and I encourage my students to choose a topic of their interest in group 5. Lastly, the use of technology is not limited only to GDC calculators. Still, I provide demonstrations of mathematical software such as GeoGebra to link abstract concepts to mathematical modeling of the real world. This approach helps students feel connected and involved in the subject, along with learning necessary skills for internal assessments and IA’s. I had the opportunity to be part of the school authorization process for MYP/DP; I prepared and updated policy documents such as the academic integrity policy. Spearheaded the vertical and horizontal alignment of the IB MYP/DP math curriculum. As a math education technology consultant, I also executed projects for Encyclopedia Britannica, developing interactive mathematics solutions for middle and high school math. I am also an IB examiner for International Baccalaureate for IB DP math Application and Interpretation course. My teaching experience includes teaching students from the age group of 8 to 19 years old in various grades ranging from Class 4 to O levels, A levels, and IB MYP/DP in the capacity of a classroom environment as well as private one-on-one. My rich experiences around the world with an optimistic approach and innovative ideas: inspire me to evolve as a skillful teacher. I believe I would be a valuable resource for this position and would appreciate an opportunity.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
I will identify students' specific needs by using the diagnostic methodology. Make sure that we both are on the same level. We will plan the learning journey together, along with its learning outcomes. Ensure a productive and supportive learning environment where they are comfortable and reach success.
