About Carlos
I'm from Colombia, and I have felt attracted by science; my first science project was building a microscope when I was 7 yo. Since then, I think that my path was defined. At 33 years old, I'm a Chemist and Ph.D. Candidate in Chemical Sciences. I have focused my efforts on two great things. The first one, being the best husband and loving partner and friend of my wife, and the second, is being the best chemistry teacher ever. For both projects, I have a long path to walk, but I'm confident I will have success. I love to say that I'm an art/science remix person. As an artist, I have written two fantasy novels and I'm finishing my third novel, but this time it will be a detective fiction genre. Also, I have been increasing my skills in watercolor painting and plastic arts with polymer clay and I practice fitness boxing. Let's talk about my scientific personality: as a scientist learning new things every day is a real pleasure and a necessity for me. For that reason, tutoring is an excellent way to always keep my knowledge fresh and learn something new. As your tutor, I'm in the capacity to help you with any of these subjects which I have mastered with experience and tons of effort: Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, Science, and Spanish. Maybe you are worried about a complex question or assignment, but it is fine, for me it would be a challenging and amazing opportunity to help you to be better. Share your doubts with me, we can sort out anything together!

Teaching Style
My methodology and approach to tutoring
What is your teaching philosophy?
I believe in the powerful capacity to amaze to create the necessity for learning. I love to teach using day-by-day examples, letting them know that science is more than just assignments, that science is a window to see wonderful phenomena beyond our imagination and the best way to do that is by building bonds with the students, and creating a safe environment where any question is allowed, and any answer is a step forward to the truth.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
First I introduce myself, then I ask him/her to introduce himself and tell me what his/her favorite hobby is. I then use this information to make examples or explain things about science through his hobby. I ask what task he/she is having trouble with and what strategies he has used to solve it. Then we go through a couple of similar exercises where I give him/her all the tools to solve the problem and he/she has to use them to solve the problem using his/her imagination.

Carlos was very kind and very helpful at preparing me for my IB chemistry exams. During our session, he was very supportive. We managed to cover a variety of topics with only one session. I feel like he did help me perform better at my final exams!
