Teaching Style
My methodology and approach to tutoring
What is your teaching philosophy?
I love to teach a flow and scaffolded for that specific student while teaching the way they like to learn. I love to alter the curriculum for the student's specific goals and aspirations; as well as give feedback that helps without negativity. I teach with higher-level critical thinking skills so the student progresses on why they are doing what they are doing instead of just telling them what to think. I think the relevance in historical references enhances instruction and makes the student realize they are on the right track with their series or work. I incorporate multimedia technological means in my teaching to keep it interesting to the student and meets them where they already reside.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
In the initial session, with a new student, I would go over their goals, learn more about them, tell them about me, assess their development with beginner exercises and inventories for their grade level/age, alter their exercises if assessed development exceeded expectation, as well as give positive critical feedback wherever possible.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
I try to help students stay motivated through a series of ideas that I have developed over the years. I give a learning inventory to find out how they like to learn which helps engagement. I like to incorporate interests the student has to help the work be more personally involved and meaningful. I give feedback that is positive and ask questions to derive their own understanding where they could improve and why it's necessary. This gives them a sense of accomplishment and ownership of their development. I try to encourage them to remember that they are supposed to strive for improvement and not have perfection; as the viewers are trained to look if a student developed and flushed out the topic/theme/subject's solutions.
