About Sarrah

Hi! I am from Tanzania, but I have traveled to and lived in 14 countries. I am super friendly, funny (mostly dad jokes) and love working with youth! I am a UBC graduate with a BSc. in Chemistry. I did the IB Diploma Programme 6 years ago with my HLs in Chemistry, Biology, and Math. I have been a tutor for 8 years, including tutoring IB students for Chemistry HL and SL for 7 years. I love creating learning experiences that bring my students a step closer to their dreams.

Teaching Style

My methodology and approach to tutoring

What is your teaching philosophy?

I believe in making learning accessible to my students' needs. I utilize my students' strengths to make our lessons a more enjoyable and useful experience for them.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

Identify their goals. Assess their strengths and weakness. Make a plan to meet the goals. A lesson will contain clear learning objectives and include a combination of writing, provided notes, images, and examples. Students will learn what a good IB-style answer is. In the end, they will be provided with a bank of topic-based IB-style questions to practice their learning.

Sarrah is a great tutor! She knows her stuff extremely well and is great at working with me to make sure I understand everything. I really enjoy her teaching style, as she goes over the information and then gives time to practice and make sure it is fully understood. Would definitely recommend for anyone hoping to learn chemistry!
