About Shally

Hi, I am Shally. I had been a researcher and a PhD holder from a reputed university of North India in Chemistry and now a Permanent Resident of Canada. Along with my research experience during post-graduation and in PhD, I have been into teaching (General Chemistry, Organic, Inorganic, Physical, Biophysical, Analytical Chemistry) to undergraduate and graduate students for several years. My research area focuses on synthesis, analysis and application studies of silicon compounds. I have fetched research publications for the same in international journals pertaining to scientific and environmental domains. I have successfully taught and assisted Grade 11 and 12 students of BC for both theory and laboratory work pertaining to IB (HL/SL) Chemistry. I am confident that in my previous connections with my students, I have been a reliable tutor who would adapt the teaching style and mode of communication to suit all levels of ability as per the student. As a teacher, my sole duty is to upgrade the knowledge and skills of my students being a true guide and mentoring them for fostering the abilities of critical thinking, creativity, analysis and problem solving. I have the apt internet speed together with ample resources for IB Chemistry. I am flexible for time management with students for the online lesson delivery.

My methodology and approach to tutoring

What is your teaching philosophy?

Science is for everyone. I think every student deserves to gain knowledge beyond the horizon and for that he/she needs a torch-bearer, a guide, a demonstrator, and a motivator. I am always ready to become all of these and encourage my students for lifelong learning using the best out of their potential with their own critical thinking, creativity, analysis, reflections, and feedback. I gladly take teaching not only as my profession but more than that as my passion. I also encourage the weak students to come up with their fears and doubts openly and understand the beauty of learning scientific domains. I am habitual of giving them relevant examples from routine life to clarify and simplify the concepts better.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

I take the first session as an opportunity to get along with the student and analyze their knowledge and problem-solving level. I note down the students' requirements accordingly. I start with the basics of the preferred topic and slowly move towards upgrading the students' knowledge about the subject. I pay attention to how much interest the student already has in the topic and then improve their interest by giving relevant examples and describing the significance of things in actual life!

Shally was excellent. My daughter thought she would only need a 15 minute session but was engaged for more than 45 minutes. It says a lot that she was able to keep her interested in the session and helped her understand the content! I would highly recommend Shally!
